The lake itself is a maar, a broad, low-relief volcanic crater caused by an explosion that occurred when groundwater came into contact with hot magma. The park was established to protect this unique geological feature and provide recreational opportunities for the public. Battle Ground Lake State Park is a haven for outdoor adventure.
